Pastry
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 cup cold butter cubed
- 0.5 cup cold water
Filling
- 1 cup potatoes diced
- 1 cup rutabaga diced
- 0.5 cup onion chopped
- 1 cup beef skirt steak diced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg beaten, for egg wash
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, mixing until the dough forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
In another bowl, combine potatoes, rutabaga, onion, beef, salt, and pepper.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ⅛ inch thick. Cut into 6-inch circles.
Place a portion of the filling on one half of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and crimp the edges to seal. Place on a baking sheet.
Brush the pasties with the beaten egg. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until golden brown.
